People frequently ask me for advice about computers. They think I know everything there is to know, I don't, but I can find out...
Here is everything I know:
1. any argument can be settled very easily: google it
usually you can type in your question, or type in the nouns to your question and you will find it. If you are asking a question, chances are someone else has asked it also - and has posted it.
2. BE SAFE
Try to stay away from microsoft products because:
a. many hackers attack this software and its users, it is the champion. People love to dethrone the champ.
b. they are not free.
alternatively, for internet browsing (instead of internet explorer), use Mozilla Firefox
for an email client (instead of outlook), use Mozilla Thunderbird
for virus protection, use these 3 free programs:
spybot and adaware to remove spyware from your computer
Avast to protect your computer from viruses
3. Open source is your friend
Open source programs are made by people, not companies
need word, excel, access, powerpoint of microsoft office??
forget it, they are Microsoft, and they are not free!
Instead use Open Office.
It is totally euro, yes, but its free and is even smarter than those microsoft counterparts
4. other great resources:
wikipedia
- learn about anything
cnet - investigate any software or electronic device. If I am ever looking for a program to help me on the computer, this is my first and practically only source to download programs. The most important part is the user reviews. They will tell you if the program slows down your computer or if there are any catches to the seemingly great deal. I would generally not recommend downloading anything under 4 out of 5 stars - only accept the best for yourself!
the library - you can order practically any book, film or cd and have it delivered to your local library! its not just for the elderly, kids and pedophiles anymore!
IMDB - all about movies (and "film" if you think you are smarter than the layman)
None of the above links will cost you money. None will put spyware on your computer.
Be Safe. Be smart.
Here are services that will cost you money, but will also SAVE you money.... that I use
I havent figured out how to make money off of your clicks yet, but soon I might.
I do, however, benefit by my friends having more money!
FaxItNice - about 30 cents per page. Cheapest way I can find in NY. In many counties around the country, there is a free fax program. I have not researched it enough, because it doesnt apply to me. It might be worth checking out...
CitiCards - Citi Dividend Platinum Select Mastercard - 5% back on supermarkets, drug stores, gas and 1% back on everything else. No sign up fees.
thats all for now, if you have anything to add or comment send me a message
